Spoke too soon

Well just when I thought we were making good progress, we've seemed to slow a bit due to rain.
Rain, Rain go away come again when the lodge is done!
Garage door and and soffet went up today but looking forward to siding up before the end of the week. Electrical will begin tomorrow and insulation next week. I'm still pushing for a 4th of July celebration though. More updates to come, in the meantime - enjoy the sunshine.

We're Floored! and roofed and . .

We are undoubtedly thrilled about the progress lately. This project is moving along so quickly - and efficiently. Friday they finished roofing, Monday and Tuesday cement floor was poured and walls put up. Today, window and door openings cut.

Here is the back side of the lodge that overlooks the river with a 15 x 30 foot deck - do you feel the relaxation???

The front side that faces the road. Macie the guard dog.

Remembering the Saw Mill

Some people have asked what barn is it that we tore down so the lodge can go up? Well, here's some pictures of the old saw mill. It was not in good shape and blocking our beautiful view of the river. We kept some great parts of the saw mill though, that I plan to put creatively back into the lodge - including some of the barn siding. It was torn down and burned in a matter of a couple of days. Although I try not to be sentimental about, I love the rustic aspect it lended to the property.

Getting Loopy!

A bunch of friends came over tonight and we all got looped - ok, so maybe I should clarify . . . a bunch of guys came over and ran hundreds of feet of radiant in floor heat for the lodge. With this heat our toes will be sure to be toasty even though the floor will remain cement. Thanks to Bryan, Tom, Korey, Sean for helping lay the insulation and loopy pex piping. We're already for cement on Monday.

We also had lots of other visitors tonight who came to witness the project and see the almost completed roof that they worked on today. Nothing better than a productive day, if only the weather would cooperate for the next couple of weeks!

Simple Goodness

If you didn't know we have a big garden, well. . .we have a BIG garden! This weekend we picked all kinds of spring goodies - asparagus and rhubarb. Now, if you would have asked either one of us 15 years ago (or even a year ago for the rhubarb) we would have both made a horrible scrunched up face at this food but not today!

This weekend Brandon made a lovely aspargus cassarole and I whipped up a stunning rhubarb pie, if I must say so myself - and here's the picture to prove it. On the to-do list this week - freeze both.

Happy Mother's Day~

Happy Mother's Day to all of the mom's out there. Even though my mom is out of town today we celebrated the day with my mother-in-law who stepped into the position perfectly. Have a wonderful day and do something for yourself - you deserve it!
If your husband didn't get you flowers today, here are some beautiful apple blossoms that are blooming today.

We're Diggin' Alright!

Hello Everyone! I'm excited to get Brandon and I (or just I) are on a blog. I've been an avid journaler for years and can't wait to share the interesting and not so interesting news of our lives with the world!

Many have asked about our new "project", so I thought this would be a perfect time for you to see our latest and greatest project. For years we've talked about building a "lodge" or guesthouse. This spring it became apparent that we should embrace these dreams and in the past couple weeks the new building has gone up.

It will be a great place for Christmas celebrations, birthday parties . . . since we both have the big 30 coming up this year, Super Bowl parties, scrapbooking, deer hunting gatherings, and the list goes on! It will be great to do some additional entertaining, since our centennial home is big but not conducive to large crowds.

We're determined to have a 4th of July party and will invite you all! The building will have a large kitchen, living room, 15 x 30 porch overlooking the river, bathroom, dining room area and 1/3 of it will be garage like for Brandon to process dead animals. Here's a picture of it so far and Brandon and Sean exhausted after working on it all day.

More updates to come!
